Short Bio
Vladimir-Ioan Creţu ( IEEE M'02, ACM PM'95, SM’09) received his Dipl. Eng. degree in Computer Engineering (1974) and his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science (1984) from the Polytechnic Institute of Timisoara. He is now professor emeritus at the Department of Computers and Information Technology, Faculty of Automation and Computers, Politehnica University of Timisoara. Between 1992 and 2016 he was the head of Department of Computers and Information Technology. His research interests cover the domain of computer and information technology, being oriented on the following directions: definition and formal verification of real-time systems, real-time system modeling, development of operating systems and of real-time executive systems including multiprocessor and distributed environments, power consumption improvement in real-time systems, implementation of programming languages and of techniques and mechanisms for concurrency control; development of general purpose software applications; studies and contributions in the domain of advanced programming techniques, concurrent programming techniques and real-time programming techniques; software for data acquisition and processing systems in the domain of measuring and testing electrical machines, embedded systems, instrumentation and measurement, data structures, algorithm design and analysis, processes, methods and techniques for software project management; image processing and knowledge modeling in medicine; high performance computing. He is the author or co-author of more than 233 technical papers and is team member of more than 85 R&D grants and contracts, being director of 30 of them. He has supervised 18 PhD theses. He is also member of the Academy of Technical Sciences in Romania (CM’99, M’12) and the president of Timişoara Branch of Academy of Technical Sciences in Romania.
